We continue to have a great turnout at our meetings and that is really good. Last week at our regular scheduled meeting, we presented two fine young men with our club’s scholarship for 2014.
Jason Jeffrey and Dylan Beech won our scholarships this year and we could not be more pleased. We gave each young man a $750. scholarship to help with their continuing education this fall.
A big huge welcome to another new member—A.C. Wilkins who is driving a 1940 Pontiac Coupe. We are glad you joined the club A.C.
I think everyone’s excited about our fish fry that we have planned for June 21st at the SRA Campground on Lake Fork. I spoke with Roger Dennison, the President of Hide-A-Way Car Club, and they are planning to join us on that day as our guest. They already have 10 committed to come and he thinks they might have as many as 20 by next week. Some of their guys want to go to a car show in Tyler on that date but we will see how that goes.
The club voted to buy some of those metal signs that will identify our club when we go to shows. I think that is a really neat thing to do. We had 22 signs ordered so if you did not put your name on the list and want to get one of these signs be sure and send me an email. They are suppose to cost around $20. a piece. I plan on talking to the company that makes them this week.
Also, Darrell gave us all a survey to fill out and he will go over that at our next meeting but the club overwhelmingly said they wanted to take our show to the next level. Everyone just about wants our show to become a major event. That’s all I need to say about that right now. Too bad the city of Quitman doesn’t feel like they want to be a part of this. I personally think their leadership is missing the boat on this one and that’s sad because the city needs a major attraction like our show.
On another note, we still have a lot of sponsors to contact for this year’s show so let’s get going on that. We need to know where we stand. Also, it looks like we have a lot more folks wanting to step up and be Platinum and gold sponsors this year. Our business people can see that we are giving them a huge bang for their bucks and they like the exposure we are giving them. Plus, a lot of our business people are really community oriented and they want to see us have a successful show every year. We now have our car show committees in place so we are starting to really get geared up for the big show on September 20th. The huge give-a-ways we are offering this year of the engine and the car hauler trailer will really add to our attendance—if the weather cooperates.
Thanks for your support of our club.
