President - Larry Barnes

Our club has been very busy the past month. We had a good showing at the Wood Memorial Nursing Home where we put our cars on display for the residents. They really enjoyed the time outside and seeing the cars. I had several of the people make comments on cars they use to drive.

We had a fantastic Fish Fry as we hosted the Hide-A-Way Lake Car Club on Saturday, June 21st. We had about 70 people at the event and we cooked about 280 fillets. The guys did a good job cooking and everyone said they loved the fish except my wife. Cecile said she got hold of a piece that tasted real fishy. I thought I had trimmed everything off that would cause that. I spent about 2 hours just trimming the fillets to make sure there were no bones and no fat on the fillets. I guess I missed one and she got it. The ones I had were fantastic. Everybody brought side dishes and desserts and we had plenty to feed everyone. A special thanks to Jim and Sue Ramsey for all their hard work and running around to get all the paper goods, condiments etc. and Sherry and RT for the Ice and drinks and the guys that helped us cook. I think we ought to do at least two fish fries a year—one in the late spring and one in the fall.

The Hide-A-Way club has invited us to be a part of their mini car show for the Hide-A-Way Lake community on July 12th at 2 PM. They have a huge pavilion over there and plenty of shade. All we have to take is our chairs. They are going to have a hamburger cookout around 4 PM and feed us. We want to make sure we have a good attendance for their event. They were a great bunch of car people and a very nice group of folks to get to know.

The best news we have is that the City Of Quitman has given us the go ahead on closing Stephens Street, just north of the park, for our car show. We will be able to use that whole street clear up to the county jail, as well as the old car lot across the street for parking. THAT SOLVES OUR PARKING PROBLEM!!!! And it might even be a better solution than a blacktop drive in the back of the park. We are going to try to get a 40 ft. trailer to put on the north side of the parking lot for our sound system and entertainment. That way our sound system will work much better and with the big speakers we have lined up, everyone will be able to hear like never before. Our show this year should be the BEST EVER. Lots going on and it’s all good. We invite everyone to come be a part of it. PLEASE contact all your sponsors as soon as you can and get the money turned in to Sherry. I will be ordering the awards within the next couple weeks. At our next meeting we need to decide on the color T-shirts we want for this year. If you are going to a car show in June or July please let me know so I can give you some fliers to take with you. Don’t forget our June DQ Cruise in is Thursday 26th.

Until next month, keep your classic classy.
