President - Larry Barnes

I am really excited about what’s happening in our car club these days. We have had awesome attendance at our meetings and we have done some things that, in my opinion, strengthened our club’s direction.

I was very proud of the club’s vote to increase the amount and the number of scholarships we awarded. We will present those Scholarship Certificates at our May meeting. I was also excited that we voted to host the Hide-A-Way Lake Car Club to a fish fry. I think that will be a great event and who knows what that might lead to. We will at least be friends with some more people who like classic cars. In case you haven’t heard, I changed the date of the fish fry to June. The Hide-A-Way club is attending a special car show on May 24th to honor Joe Yeakey. He was the fireman that was burned so bad in a fire a month or so ago. We want to join them at that show in Lindale at the Picker’s Pavillion on May 24th.

Also, don’t forget, our club is committed to showing our cars at the Wood Memorial Nursing Home on Tuesday, May 13th at 10 AM. Everyone who has a classic car is invited to join our club on that date to help brighten some people’s lives. Those residents will really enjoy seeing the old cars—so please make this a priority on your schedule. The nursing home is located on the left side of Hwy 69 as you are going into Mineola. Before you get to Pizza Hut.

We are still working diligently with the City of Quitman to try to get funding for the park addition. I think we will know something before the next meeting on whether this is going to happen. All of us who have been meeting with the city thought this was a done deal. It appears that it might not be but we haven’t given up on it yet. However, I am already looking into some other alternatives and locations to report to you if the city drags their feet and can’t get this done.

We will form our car show committees at the May meeting so please plan on attending. You new members need to let me know if you would like to serve on a certain committee. We have the Parking Committee (very important job), advertising committee, Sound System committee, Registration Committee, Goodie Bag Committee, Trophy & T-Shirt Committee, 50/50 Committee and the Door Prize Committee. We have had some other committees in the past but I am revising the list this year.

In closing I would like to say WELCOME to our three new members for the month of April. Wendell and Wade Williams and Jason Almand. We are really glad to have you in our club.
